Ridgeview’s Girls Who Code Club

It started at the beginning of my freshman year, with my friends and me stepping outside of our comfort zones to learn more about what’s out there. With the help of that one decision, my STEM journey has flourished. I’ve become a part of a strong, encouraging, and fun community both within and outside of my school, and I’ve been exposed to a multitude of amazing opportunities, as seen throughout this portfolio!

Many clubs have come and gone at my school, but with the grit of the computer science teacher, Mr.Davis, and the determination of our members, we’ve kept this club alive and formed a strong community that’s always up for a new challenge.

My Achievements within Girls Who Code

2023 Self-Paced Summer Program

Not long after I joined this club, I was introduced to all the free events that the official Girls Who Code organization offered. This is how I got to participate in the 2023 Girls Who Code Self-Paced Program my freshman year. I got the opportunity to spend over a month engaging in various computer science topics while interacting with peers from around the world, each of us assisting one another and forming a reliable community.

We were encouraged to attempt at least one or two of the projects given, but I had been enjoying the program so much that I completed every project provided. By the end of the program, I got certification in the basics of cryptography, cybersecurity, Python, and more! These skills would later aid me in further STEM opportunities.

Below are all the certifications I received:

2025 Award Winners

National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) - Aspirations in Computing High School Award

During my sophomore year, I was the first student from Ridgeview to ever win this award, resulting in a specialized certificate being awarded to our school. This had been my first STEM award, making it a very exciting moment in my journey. The following year, our club gained two new winners for the Regional Affiliate and Honorable Mention awards for the year 2025!
